After an offseason of worrying, the Dallas Cowboys and star CeeDee Lamb have finally agreed to a massive contract extension that will make him the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Lamb has agreed to a four-year, $136 million deal, and will now report to practice with less than two weeks until the Cowboys open the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 8 against the Cleveland Browns.

While the questions surrounding the Cowboys wide receiver room have finally been answered, now all questions shift to fantasy football.

What Does CeeDee Lamb’s New Contract Mean for Fantasy Football?

Earlier this month, Cowboys Chief Operating Officer and co-owner Stephen Jones spoke to Yahoo Sports and said exactly what every fantasy manager would want to hear.

“He’s going to touch the ball a ton — for what we’re going to have to pay him, he better,” Jones said. “I told (head coach) Mike (McCarthy) things can’t change. He’s got to be targeted 12 to 15 times a game. You got to hand it to him a couple more times. So I don’t see that changing in the least bit. He’s our No. 1 go-to guy.”

Jones said this before Lamb got his contract extension — then the Cowboys gave him $100 million guaranteed and a $38 million signing bonus, an NFL record for a wide receiver. Lamb is likely going to see the ball even more than he did last year when he had 181 targets and an NFL-best 135 receptions.

When to Draft CeeDee Lamb in Fantasy Football?

Now that Lamb has his contract, he should be the second player off the board in fantasy leagues after San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.

Lamb is coming off a 2023 season in which he caught 135 passes for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. This year, the Cowboys will feature him even more.

Lamb has the highest floor of any wide receiver in fantasy football and is arguably the safest player to draft.

He’s by far the best weapon for quarterback Dak Prescott, as the rest of the wide receiver room consists of Brandin Cooks, Jalen Tolbert, and a bunch of players competing for roster spots.

The Cowboys’ starting tight end is Jake Ferguson, while their running backs include Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, and Royce Freeman.

Lamb is the guy in Dallas and could be the best player in fantasy football in 2024.
